Here are the results of the 2013 Celtic Challenge held in Cork, Ireland. Final Placings                  Individual WPF Scores Congratulations to all those with acceptances and awards in the recent Welsh International Salon. We will publish full details as soon as we have them. Mervyn Pugh has kindly sent us a copy of his MFIAP panel based on the men of Tower Colliery. It can be seen below. It is a remarkable achievement. Well done Mervyn!
We’ve just received some sad news from Mel O’Brien, Secretary of Caerphilly Camera Club. One of their long standing members, Brian George, passed away on Monday 22nd July. Brian was chairman of the club for over 20 years and one of its founder members over 60 years ago. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to attend the club in recent years to illness but is fondly remembered by the older members. As a result of Inn Focus’ remarkable performance in reaching the final last year, for the first time ever, three WPF clubs made the journey to Warwick to take part in the PAGB National DPI Championships. Full Results                         Awards Ebbw Vale, making their first visit, and Tenby (former ‘Plate’ winners) found the going a little tough finishing in the bottom six of the plate competition. Inn Focus failed to repeat the achievement by just four points but despite their disappointment they went on to win the Plate competition by three points from Beyond Group, Dundee and Southampton! Ian Munro’s photograph entitled ‘The Irony of Ironing’ won one of the judges choice awards (from Libby Smith). A report on the day by Ian Munro of Inn Focus can be seen below. Many thanks to Ian Munro for submitting this report of Inn Focus’ day at the National DPI Championships at Warwick. For Inn Focus Warwick and Connah’s Quay are both priority each year and it’s easy to see why when you get there. After leaving on Friday afternoon we arrived in Warwick the evening before where we set out to destroy a few beers and an Indian meal. We try and make it a big social event and try and get the wives and friends involved. This was our second year in succession and we felt we had a stronger image base to compete. Also it had a different feel because Tenby were there again and also for the first time Ebbw Vale were there to help the Welsh represent at this level, which was great. Inn Focus have won the ‘Plate‘ competition at the National DPI Championships at Warwick. Well done to them! More details when someone sends us a report. (Hint!) Congratulations to Inn Focus and Tenby for finishing first and second at the inaugural Ace of Prints competition. They both go on the represent the WPF at the National Print Championships at Connah’s Quay later in the year. Full details below: One or two of you have asked for advice on how to quickly find particular items on this website. Look no further. Congratulations to Rhodri Llewellyn AFIAP of Cardiff CC who achieved his CPAGB and to Linda Cowen CPAGB AFIAP of Neath & District PS who achieved her DPAGB at the recent distinction adjudications at Bromsgrove. He attended Leeds private school before going on to Aberystwyth University where he obtained an honours degree in Botany. After university he joined the family business of coopers, hauliers and property owners in the Swansea Area. He lived in the same house throughout his life. Len Beard, a founder member of Velindre and Trostre Camera Club passed away on the 9th April. The following obituary is from Des Daughton. Len joined Velindre Camera Club at the works in the mid ’60’s, when members met in the old huts formerly used by on-site contractors. He had the first of many successful entries in the Welsh Salon soon afterwards. This year saw him gain 3 acceptances to the Salon, A digital image called Journey’s End and two prints named A Quiet Corner and Moonshine. The WPF has great pleasure in announcing that we now have three of our very own judges on the PAGB approved judges list. Their names will appear in the new PAGB handbook to be published shortly. I am sure that you will join me in congratulating them and wishing them well when they are invited to cross the water. They are in alpha order: Jan Cawley EFIAP/s HonFWPF, Brian Coleman AFIAP AWPF and Ian Ledgard LRPS EFIAP PPSA AWPF. Gwynfa member Martin Thomas LRPS AWPF has published a book on Toronto. It is entitled ‘Time & Chance’. It is full of interesting and thought provoking photographs. You can see it here. We have been informed by Newport Photographic Club that their long serving Secretary, Desrae Tucker, passed away suddenly today after a short illness. Desrae has been involved in the club, formerly Newport Camera Club, for many years. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time. |
