Here are all the results from the PAGB Inter-Federation Competition held at Talbot Green on Sunday, 8th June 2014. This sad news from Ebbw Vale. We are sad to report that Jim Holland, vice Chairman at Ebbw Vale Camera Club has passed away. Jim will be known by many in the WPF as he was Chairman of our club for all but one of the years we have been in existence, he stepped down last October at the AGM but remained on the committee as vice chair. A strong character in the club he has kept us going when times have been tough. He will be missed. RIP. Another new club has joined the WPF. Oakdale Photographic Society is based near Blackwood and you can find out more about them on their website. I am sure you will all join us in welcoming them to the federation! Here are the acceptance lists for the 2014 Welsh Salon of Photography. We are aware there are some errors. Some photographers are shown as belonging to the wrong clubs. Please check the listing thoroughly and report any problems to Linda Baldwin. welshinternational@thewpf.co.uk Meanhile, congratulations to everyone. The results of the 2014 5 to 8 Competition for PhotoHarmony digital AV sequences are as follows: Winner – Wantage Camera Club – One Day Like This Runner-up – Malcolm Imhoff – On Higher Ground Runner-up – Adri van Oudheusden – One Fine Day (South Africa) Highly Commended – Ian Bateman – Catalunyan Morning Highly Commended – Nellian Bekker – Fantasie d’Eau (South Africa) This years winning sequence was a joint entry by members of Wantage Camera Club, I hope this will encourage other clubs to consider entering. The winning entry will shortly be available to view on the Bridgend CC website. Our Judges this year, Edgar Gibbs FRPS MPAGB AV-AFIAP and Linda Gibbs MPAGB AV-AFIAP, provided expert critique of all the sequences and helped make the evening very stimulating and enjoyable. Edgar and Linda commented that the standard was very high and the final results were very close. Bridgend CC would like to thank them for all their hard work. The presence of visitors from other clubs and the South Wales RPS AV group was much appreciated. A DVD of sequences and the judges critique will be sent to clubs via the WPF portfolio service. Bridgend CC hope that other clubs will find this entertaining and with the Judges comments enclosed an informative disc. Details of the 2015 competition will be on the Bridgend CC website in the near future, If anyone has any queries about this competition please contact us at: 5to8@bridgendcameraclub.co.uk Big apologies for the omission of Kidwelly Camera Club from our previous post welcoming six new clubs to the WPF. Seemingly in their place we included Gower Photographic Society, who aren’t new to the WPF, they have just changed their name (from Mumbles & West Cross). This was solely an error on the part of our news editor (that’s me). It was the Gower name change that threw me off the scent. I was looking for six new names on the list and thought I had found them all. So, to all Kidwelly members, I am very sorry for upsetting you! Inn Focus Group (1st) and Tenby (2nd) proved to be the class of the field at the Ace of Clubs. Both clubs go on the represent the WPF at the National DPI Championships at Warwick. The plate competition was won by Gwent. Official scores, both individual and overall, can now be found in the following documents: Round One                                  Round Two Plate                                           Final At the recent PAGB Cup, four WPF members received individual recognition. Congratulations to them all. In the open competition: In the small clubs competition: Very well done to Rhondda who were top Welsh club in the recent PAGB Cup for small clubs. Welsh scores (both WPF and NWPA) were: Rhondda Camera Club 119 4th= Full results here. *** Note, Bridgend were docked points and demoted to 42nd due to a member entering the same photograph at two clubs. We do not know how many points they were docked. Other posts give info about the large club and nature competitions. Welsh clubs placed very well among the 110 clubs that entered the 2014 PAGB Cup (Open section for large clubs). Inn Focus Group finished a creditable 5th and Gwynfa were 9th from the 100 biggest clubs in the UK. The four Welsh clubs who entered this competition achieved the following scores: Inn Focus Group 175 5th Top club was Wigan 10 with 186 points. Full results here. *** Please note, Gwynfa were later docked 11 points and dropped to 29th place due to a member entering the same photograph to two different clubs. Please see separate posts for the ‘Nature’ competition and the ‘Open for small clubs’ competition (when available). Welsh clubs didn’t feature too highly among the 94 clubs that entered the 2014 PAGB Cup for Nature achieving the following scores for their 10 best photos: Inn Focus Group 111 (Joint 29th) Full results here. The story was better elsewhere. Please see separate posts for the other two PAGB Cup competitions. Sad news from Tony Falla of Monmouth PC. Derek Jones one of the founder members of Monmouth Photographic Club has passed away aged 87. It is our understanding that he was involved in the setting up of the Lampeter Convention which he attended for many years. His funeral will take place on Wednesday 5th Feb. From Martin Nagle of the Rhondda CC. 24 Clubs took part in the 2014 Memorial Trophy Competition, hosted by the Rhondda Camera Club on Sunday 26th January. A very entertaining Apppraisal was given by the judge, Tony Dudley from Smethwick Photographic Society. His comments showed a very astute knowledge of technique and composition, and were delivered with much humour. Thanks to Leanne Wood AM (Leader of Plaid Cymru the Party of Wales) for opening the event and giving some inspiring remarks about the people and landscapes of Wales. Congratulations to Inn Focus who won against some very high quality competition. Cardiff came second, and Cwmbran, Ebbw Vale and The Vale Clubs tied for third place. All 24 Clubs who entered were winners in this Competition though. It would be no Competition without the participation of so many Clubs. The Rhondda Camera Club are proud to have been able to organise this Competition, and thank the large number of people who braved some atrocious weather to attend on the day, and to the WPF President Jan Cawley for presenting the Trophy to thw winning Club. The top five finished as follows: Inn Focus                           1st                          74 A full scoresheet can be viewed here. Thanks to Roy Thomas for the information. We have received a copy of this letter from Alan Shepherd over at Gwynfa. It is from the Police communications advisory group and explains to officers that they cannot restrict photography in a public place. |
