The Ace of Prints

This is a print competition open to all Clubs which are formal members of the Welsh Photographic Federation. There will be a new Trophy for this event called “The Ace of Prints Trophy”; plus a Trophy for the Plate Competition.

Awards will be made for the Best Mono Print, the Best Colour Print and also personal selections by the judges.

Entry

The Club will require 12 Prints for Round 1 and 15 Prints for the Final, they are allowed to have an unlimited bank of prints available for their use. However they must nominate their entries (12) for Round One at the closing date. In all cases any prints used must be accompanied by a PDI of the print to allow for projection to the audience.

Presentation

Prints must be mounted on a 50cm by 40cm board not more than 3mm thick, any Velcro or loose sticky labels and tape must be removed from the back or the print may be excluded. Prints entered must be entirely the work of the photographer, composite images are permitted but each image must be the work of the same photographer.

Each Club will enter 12 prints in Round 1 and if eligible 15 prints in Round 2 (The Final). Round 1 prints may be replaced in the Final by new entries.

In both Round 1 and the Final each Club must submit at least 5 monochrome and 5 colour prints and not more than 3 natural history prints. The prints must come from a minimum of 5 different photographers in both Round 1 and the Final but no photographer may enter more than 4 prints.

Summary

AT LEAST 5 MONOCHROME PRINTS

AT LEAST 5 COLOUR PRINTS

NOT MORE THAN 3 NATURAL HISTORY PRINTS

NOT MORE THAN 4 PER PHOTOGRAPHER

AT LEAST 5 PHOTOGRAPHERS

Prints may be chosen from an unlimited bank and in general we apply the FIAP Definitions & Rules for Mono, Colour and Natural History. Please note that you are likely to be challenged if you appear to have more than the 3 Natural History prints even though the extra images do not strictly match the FIAP Rules. It is mandatory that you provide digital copies of the prints for display purposes to the audience – these must not exceed 1400 pixels horizontally nor 1050 pixels vertically.

Entries will be mixed and displayed one at a time to 3 Judges who will silent score in the range 2 to 5. The 8 Clubs with the highest score will go forward to the Final (Clubs tying for 8th place will also go forward to the Final); the remaining Clubs may compete in the Plate Competition. The Judges will be selected by the WPF Executive Committee, they will not be members of WPF Clubs and preferably from different Federations. Clubs will be notified of their identity prior to the Competition Closing Date.

In the Plate Competition each Club participating will enter 5 Prints from a minimum of 3 photographers. There must be at least 2 Prints not used in Round 1, at least 2 Monochrome Prints, 2 Colour Prints and not more than 1 Natural History Print.

Entry Fee for 2013 will be £10 per Club.

Tenure of Trophies, these will be held for 12 months by the winning Clubs but must be returned to the WPF CELO by the end of April the following year to allow for engraving.

Loss or Damage, Whilst every care will be taken of entries whilst in the WPFâs possession, the Federation cannot accept responsibility for any loss or damage.

The first two Clubs in the Final will represent the WPF in the Annual PAGB Inter Club Print Championship normally held in October each year. (In the event of a tie for second place count back will be used – if this does not create a clear second place each Club involved will be asked to put forward a further 5 Prints with the same conditions as the Plate Competition.
