Gwynfa Member John Southcombe is taking part in the Captains California Bike Ride in aid of Velindre hospital. John has already climbed Kilimanjaro with a group of Welsh Rugby captains. Here is a message from John about the challenge he will be undertaking….
Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to visit webpage for my next challenge raising funds for Velindre Cancer research. After the successful summit of Kilimanjaro last September, I am going to be attempting the 400km Captains Bike Ride in September 2012 and prior to that I will be running the Disney World Half Marathon in January again for Velindre and in preparation for the ride.
The Captains California Bike Ride is a 400km bike ride across the West coast of America. Starting from Yosemite National Park in California the 5-6 day ride with outdoor camp stops on the way finishes by crossing the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco …. and yes it’s push bikes not motorised!
The event takes place from 16 -24 September 2012, and will be led by 3 Welsh Rugby Captains, Jonathan Davies, Martyn Williams and Mike Hall.
I’ll also be running in The Disney World Half Marathon on Saturday 7th January 2012 which will mark the 15th anniversary of the Half Marathon race. The 13.1 mile course passes through the Disney World area taking in parts of the Magic Kingdom Park on the way to a thrilling finish at Epcot.
Both of these will definitely be a BIG challenge as I’ve done very little training since coming back from Kili so the trainers will be back out from today!
