2011 5 to 8 Competition Results

The advent of the spring equinox also saw the return of Bridgend Camera Club`s 5 to 8 Photo Harmony Competition for digital AV sequences.

Now in it,s fourth year, the competition attracted it,s largest ever entry with entrants from Wales, England Scotland and Australia. The subjects included sequences shot in the Arctic, Australia, the American West and Asia as well as the British Isles. As ever, the evening was supported by members of other local camera clubs and the South Wales AV Group.

Recent technological improvements allowed us to amend the rules to allow images to be shown at native widescreen HD resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. Combining this projector with the use of a large screen and good sound system allowed the most technically accomplished sequences to stand out. Like last year our Judge, Robert Albright FRPS, provided an informative and constructive critique of the sequences. In particular, Robert pointed out where the production could be improved to maximise the impact and interest of the images by utilising the rhythm and dynamic of the music or by changing the time or type of the transition between images. Robert explains these subtleties in a way that is easy to understand by workers of any ability. After an evening viewing varied and interesting sequences and a hard fought competition. Robert revealed his choice of sequences:

Chris Bryan, chair of Bridgend Camera Club wishes to thank all who entered and especially the judge, Robert Albright FRPS, for making this competition such a success. Chris also hopes it will encourage others into entering what is, to the best of his knowledge, the only competition for Photo Harmony sequences. Through the WPF Bridgend will provide a DVD containing the entries and judges critique to all clubs in the federation.

Details of next years competition will be available later this year.
