HISTORY OF THE FEDERATION

    • The Welsh Photographic Alliance as it was initially known was renamed The Welsh Photographic Federation in 1951.  At the Annual General Meeting, Gwyn Morgan was elected President and Iestyn Rees became Secretary/Treasurer. A motto was adopted, Heb Wawl, Heb Waith, which in translation means Without Light, Without Work. It was soon agreed that the Federation should join The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB). In 1997 the Federation rejoined The Federation Internationale de l`Art Photographique, (FIAP), the world photographic organisation.

    • Walter Hammond BA(Hons) Fimlt, APAGB, became Honorary Secretary of the PAGB from 1961 to 1965 and President from 1965 to 1967. From 1987 to 1989 Eric Taylor LRPS, APAGB followed him in the office of PAGB President.

In 1994 the Federation initiated its own distinction for photographic merit, Associate of the Welsh Photographic Federation (AWPF) and the Honorary Fellowship of the Welsh Photographic Federation (Hon. FWPF), awarded in recognition of outstanding service to the Federation and its member societies.
