Being a small club The Stanley Chell is our opportunity to welcome friends from around the country to meet in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Also being a small club we recognise that it is increasingly difficult to enter competitions, possibly facing reducing memberships. However we are keen to keep this print competition alive and hope that as many of you as possible enter, and attend.

It is our honour and privilege to host “The Chell”, and we look forward to meeting you and your club on the day, for what will be another great competition filled with the best prints.

RPS International AV Festival

Entries have now closed, but if you are thinking of coming you have until Sunday 9 September 2018 to book tickets for the Saturday and Sunday Projection Sessions plus meals.  Bookings for the Festival Dinner on the Saturday evening have been very popular. There is a limit to the numbers that can be accommodated for the Festival Dinner, but we do still have some availability. Further information is available here:

Tickets for the daily sessions can be purchased on the day at the Reception Desk, but cost slightly more than tickets booked in advance. Unfortunately, meals have to be pre-ordered by 9 September to inform the Catering Service of numbers, but tea and coffee are included in the price of the session tickets.

The Festival weekend is an opportunity for you to see AVs from around the world whether you attend for one day or the whole weekend.

I look forward to seeing you at the Festival.

Congratulations to Colin Price

Congratulations to Colin Price of New Quay CC on achieving the QPSA award for photographic achievment from the Photographic Society of America. This was gained with a mixture of colour and mono acceptances in PSA recognised salons. QPSA is followed by PPSA which is now his next target. Well done Colin.

I hope that other international exhibitors in Wales might consider emulating Colin’s success.

A Message From Margaret Salisbury

We’ve received some information from our favourite ‘dragon’, Margaret Salisbury. She’s asked us to pass it on to all Club Secretaries and Programme Secretaries. Margaret says:-

It’s time for a change so I’m putting out a new talk in the new year to be called The Dragon’s Journey which I will hope to give to clubs from March onward but mainly of course the 2019-2020 season. I’m also cutting down so although available will be spreading out my lectures and taking on a limited number.

You can read full details here.

Want to know about the PSA?

Ian Ledgard writes in his new position as Photographic Society of America Membership Director for Wales.

I see from the catalogues from many Salons that there are a good number of Welsh entrants who are achieving success with both acceptances and awards and yet only a tiny handful have sought to seek recognition of their achievements by PSA.

PSA offers Recognition of Photographic Achievement for individuals who gain acceptances in PSA recognised exhibitions. The route is through a Stars and Galaxies system leading to QPSA, PPSA, EPSA, GMPSA and even higher awards.

It would be great to see more Welsh based photographers seeking these awards and I am very happy to provide further information and support.
