A gentle reminder to all clubs

When you invite a judge or a presenter to your club please:-

Keep club business short – i.e. not longer than 5 minutes.  If you have a lot of club business then please attend to it during the tea brake.

If there are a lot of pictures to be judged, or you are informed that the presentation is long, then please keep the tea brake short.

This is in response to several complaints from judges and presenters.

Ed Cloutman (WPF Judges and Presenters Secretary).

Ten Tips for Competition Shots

Andy Beel FRPS in his latest blog gives 10 Hot Hints to add impact to club competition photographs.

“If you have ever driven away from your club after a competition thinking “the judge tonight was a complete buffoon” then here are a few hot hints to help you improve your chances of winning. Photography is about the art and craft of communication, you are the viewer’s eyes. You have made a deliberate choice of the subject matter add the presentation to be judged. You are in control of the process from beginning to end, so “begin with the end in mind” to quote Dr Stephen Covey. What do the best pictures in the style or genre look like? Be aware of what good looks like.”

Ian can help you with PSA accreditation

Ian Ledgard of Towy Valley CC writes

I have recently been appointed to a volunteer role within the Photographic Society of America as Country Membership Director for Wales. I have been a member since 2005 but there are only a handful of PSA members in Wales. My task will be to support existing members and encourage other to join this worldwide organisation.

Those who enter International Salons should be aware that PSA offers awards for photographic achievement based upon acceptances gained. From the autumn onward I will be available to give detailed presentations to clubs within Wales or to meet with individuals who may be considering joining PSA.
