The 2017 Celtic Challenge

Invitation Follow Up and Timetable – Celtic Challenge 2017. It is being held on Saturday 18th Nov 2017, at Stirling Court Hotel, University of Stirling FK9 4LA.

The Scottish Photographic Federation are delighted to host the Celtic Challenge 2017. We hope to catch up with the many friends we have in the ‘Celtic’ group of Federations, Associations and Societies, and hope you will all be able to join us over the weekend of 18th and 19th Nov 2017, and take part in the Celtic Challenge Competition 2017. The main event will take place on Saturday 18th November 2017 at Stirling Court Hotel (SCH), University of Stirling, FK9 4LA. The full timetable program for the Saturday /Sunday is now available here.

We have had a good interest shown but don’t yet have firm details from all of the participating areas. Can I remind you that we require to know who is coming, whether you’ve booked at the above hotel for the Saturday evening or if you require me to allocate you a space at the Saturday Presentation Lecture and dinner (by 30th Sept). We also need to know if you would like a guide for the Saturday morning photo excursion – Please let us know ASAP so we make sure we have enough volunteers. We can also issue maps for those of you up for longer, so that you can go exploring yourselves, particularly if you arrive a day or two before the Saturday. You will be allocated the contact details of your guide so that you can make arrangements directly to suit weather conditions at the time.

Friday Evening: Many of the SPF will not arrive till the Saturday morning, but if you would like to know who else is having dinner on the Friday evening to meet up, please let me know and I’ll pass on contact details.

Re Print Entries; These can be handed in on the Friday evening to free you up to take photos or go in to Stirling on the Saturday morning. The SPF contact for this is Allan Gawthorpe, who some of you will know, as he’s been to a couple of Celtic Challenges before (He has a broad Aberdonian accent)

Judges for the Competition are Gwen and Phil Charnock FRPS, MFIAP from Wigan (L&CPU), and the Celtic Challenge Saturday Lecture will be by Colin Trow-Poole MPAGB, FRPS, FIPF from Arden (MCPF).

The hotel has given us preferential dinner, bed and breakfast rates which I have listed separately. To obtain these rates you will have to quote the Reference given. We will host the presentation dinner at the Stirling Court Hotel (SCH) on the Saturday evening. If you are not staying as part of the D,B&B rate the dinner will cost £28 per person, and requires to be pre-booked. Full details of the hotel and venue are supplied here.

To ensure everyone who wishes to attend the dinner is accounted for, please let me know ‘names and numbers’ of those who book D,B&B at SCH for the Sat evening, or ‘names and numbers’ if you require me to ‘pre-book’ you dinner if you are staying elsewhere. The final deadline for booking dinner is by 30th Sept, after which spaces will be offered to SPF Club members.

Some of our Scottish Federation members are happy to show visitors around the very picturesque Trossachs – Callander area on Saturday or Monday mornings. Detailed Maps showing some of the photo locations will also be available for those of you who want to go exploring yourselves. If you would like a guide on Sat am or Mon am, please let me know asap so we can ensure that we can accommodate you – by 30th Sept at latest please.

On Sunday 19th Nov the SPF Digital Championship event, our PAGB Warwick pre-qualifier, (run in a very similar style) will be held in Stirling Court Hotel. You are very welcome to attend. Gwen, Phil and Colin will be our Judges for that event. Or you may prefer to go exploring historic Stirling.

Please confirm your intention to enter the Competition, and also let me know how many are likely to attend from your organisation, as soon as possible. If you have any queries on the above, don’t hesitate to contact myself or Rod on the details at the bottom of this email, or on the supplied documentation.

B&B (double occupancy) £68 per night; D,B&B(double occupancy) £96 per night.
