Gary Jenkins

We’ve received sad news from Dave Lewis at Tenby & District Camera Club:

I have the sad duty to announce the passing of our good friend and esteemed photographer Gary Jenkins.

Gary was one of Tenby’s best, he specialised in photographing the most difficult of subjects. He loved taking dragonflies but also took general wildlife and astro-photography. The images he produced were of an excellent quality whatever the subject and gained many 20’s for our club at external competitions over the years. He recently gained his EFIAP and DPAGB at Pontefract.

He was very knowledgeable on post processing and gave several talks to our club on Lightroom and Photoshop. He almost single handed ran our Summer School last year as well as being a valued committee member, our Secretary and Webmaster.

Gary bravely fought his illness over the last few months, but after several operations unfortunately, died on Saturday morning, 26th January.

2019 Ace of Prints Competition

The Ace of Prints competition will take place on the weekend of 6th/7th July, 2019.

Please note, the actual day is yet to be decided as it will depend on which venue is chosen.

The closing date will be Sunday 16th June 2019.

Each Club will need 12 prints for the first round and 15 prints for the final so with 4 workers is enough for a Club to enter.

A copy of the rules can be seen here.

Any queries, please contact Roy Thomas.

2019 Memorial Trophies – Results

Hi Folks,

An enjoyable day of Memorial Competitions was held on Sunday 20th January, attended by 60+ people.

The Judge Martin Fry FRPS APAGB EFIAP/g AV-EFIAP BPE did a magnificent job of commentating on the work entered by the 17 Clubs; he laid out his stall at the start that he was looking for the story, he was looking for the picture quality to be of the highest standard with appropriate tones and shades to maintain the viewers interest. This he did assiduously throughout also adding a touch of humour and evidence of his experience in photography. Well Done Martin and thanks for travelling down to see us.

Of the three competitions it was almost a clean sweep for Inn Focus Group with two first places and a joint first place with Bridgend CC in the Colour Prints.

Summary Results are: –

Past President’ Trophy for 4 Colour Prints
1. Bridgend & District CC – Joint First 74 Points
1. Inn Focus Group – Joint First 74 Points
3. Gwynfa CC – Third 73 Points

Full scores here.

Walter Morgan Trophy for 4 PDIs
1. Inn Focus Group – First 75 Points
2. Western Valley CC – Second 71 Points
3. Afan Need – Third 70 Points

Results here. Individual Scores here.

Gwyn Morgan Trophy for 4 Mono Prints
1. Inn Focus Group – First
2. Abergavenny CC – Second
3. Swansea PS – Third

This final Trophy was for a SET of 4 Mono Prints – 3 panels were placed on the stand and the Judge set aside the weakest in his opinion with a new set taking it’s place on the stand. Again the weakest was set aside – but with two set aside the Judge then decided which one should be put back in the box.
