‘The People of the Rhondda’ Exhibition

Tony Smith of Phoenix (Rhondda) Camera Club has a forthcoming roving exhibition entitled ‘The People of the Rhondda’. The exhibition includes snapshot photos of people from all walks of life living, working or coming from the Rhondda. The idea for the project came about when he once said the words ‘I hate doing portraits’. This resulted in a self-inspired challenge to prove himself wrong.

The roving exhibition starts with Tonypandy Library on the 5th November (with the official opening at 5.30 pm on the 6th by local councillor Gareth Hughes). It then moves to Treorchy Library on the 26th November. It will be on display for at least 2 weeks at each of these venues.

It then moves to Porth Library from the 7th January and Ferndale Library on the 28th January.

Fifty portraits will be on display at Tonypandy and Treorchy but the available space dictates that number be reduced for Porth and Ferndale.

Amman Valley Camera Club

We’ve received this message from Jackie Domingo….

I still cannot get enough people to restart and regularly attend the Amman Valley Camera Club but have a suggestion that if there is a break-away group from one or an assortment of other clubs looking for premises to run a photographic venture on a different night to their normal meeting, the Hall at Cwmgors would be viable. There is storage now in the form of a double cupboard, and the cost is fairly low at £10 per evening.

The only thing, if possible, is they keep the same name as a link to the village and surroundings and because we had grants under that title which may make it easier for any future applications. I do not mind stepping aside as Secretary, although it would be nice to be involved as an ordinary member with a new scheme, if permitted. There is a limited time I can offer this chance as I am about to cancel our use of the Hall and it is a prime evening which many other organisations are interested in taking over. Keeping hold of the Hall is essential, as opposed to one of the Committee Rooms, which although cheaper at £5 per evening, they are not suitable in size for hosting competitions.

Contact Jackie as soon as possible if you are interested.
